About Matt Buckley's sculptures

Matt Buckley produces his instantly recognisable sculptures under the name of Edge Sculpture. Each piece is designed and sculpted by Matt Buckley and his small team of highly skilled sculptors and artists at his studios in Shropshire, England.

In the making of his very first sculptures Matt set out to make something that was different to anything currently in the sculpture arena and something that had an elusive feel to it – so when you first see it you are not quite sure what it is made of.  The sculptures are made of reconstituted crushed marble and carbon which when fused together makes a stone paste. Many people understandably mistake it for wood which is credit to its organic properties and tactile finish.

Matt’s work is influenced by style rather than subject.  The mix of form, light and texture gives a unique feel to each individual piece. Each subject has been originally sculpted from clay, which allows the creation of pieces that deliver both a dynamic and organic feel.  The making process is a long one, involving casting, curing and firing before finally being hand painting.  Due to the hand made and hand painted nature of these pieces slight differences in finish will occur making them all the more attractive.
